Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF)

The Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) is a non-profit, community-based organization that was established in 1963 in order to serve disadvantaged individuals and families in the Los Angeles area. MAOF is the largest Latino-oriented, family services organization in the United States, and has achieved this status by providing high-quality social services and programs to those communities where the need is the greatest. Programs include Payday Relief Fund Program in partnership with the ESUSU, a financial technology platform helping individuals pay off high-interest loans, save money, and build credit as well as financial coaching and employment coaching assistance. BankOn Los Angeles County

The BankOn Los Angeles County Coalition is managed by the LA County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs’ Center for Financial Empowerment. They work with community organizations, county departments, and financial institutions to increase access to mainstream bank accounts. This helps avoid expensive alternative financial services and puts you on a path to increased savings and financial empowerment.

Jewish Free Loan Association (JFLA)

JFLA is a nonprofit organization that provides loans with no interest, fees, or collateral requirements. They issue short-term loans to put toward any emergency bills, COVID relief loans for personal expenses, COVID relief loans for small businesses, and education and wellness loans. Services are provided in English.

CalSavers

CalSavers is California’s new retirement savings program that will offer millions of workers in California the opportunity to get on track for the future. CalSavers is available to California workers whose employers don’t offer a workplace retirement plan, self-employed individuals, and others who want to save extra. Savers contribute to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) that belongs to them.

The FreeFrom team is made up of survivors. Opportunity L.A.

Beginning March 2022, all first graders enrolled at an LAUSD elementary school will have a college savings account automatically opened for them. Each account will have an initial $50 deposit. Throughout the school year incentives will be offered to parents to contribute to their children’s account. Children who attend an LAUSD school but reside in an unincorporated area are included in the program. A Social Security Number is not required and there is no income requirement to participate. The City of Los Angeles serves as the account custodian for all accounts.
